What a beautiful day we woke to this morning, a nice change of pace from the previous three days. Should hit the high 60s. So, off to the market in town, where we picked up cheeses (intense perfectly-aged St. Marcellin, creamy farm Reblochon, and the best Roquefort you can get – Papillon), sausages (a spicy local chorizo and two types of faggots), fabulous locally-made spreads (artichoke and tomato), and a few other items. We also shipped off 15 pounds of maps, books, and other items to Florida to lighten our load. Then, lunch at Chez Bru, a two-starred Michelin restaurant in Eygalières. We had the Menu Degustation (tasting menu) which consisted of lobster and urchins, followed by crab and oyster in a foamy shellfish broth, sea bass (David) and milk fed veal (Bev), cheese, dessert, and coffee. For wine, we decided on a 2004 Chateau de Tours – a Rhone white from one of the finest producers in the region (Chateau Rayas) that – nonetheless sells for an incredibly low 30 Euros per bottle. It was fabulous, as was the entire meal. Dinner tonight will consist of a glass of wine and a bad movie on Sky TV.
