Today is the day!
Woke up to a serenade from David singing Happy Birthday. My email inbox was filled with cards wishing me well on the occasion, all of which I appreciated. Lucy sent a talking ecard wishing her human mom a happy birthday. I’ll see her in just two days.
Spent the morning doing mundane things like laundry and packing so that tomorrow won’t be too hectic. Would have loved to go to the Eygalieres market, but there’s no need to buy any food, and I’ve already scoped out all of the fabrics, etc., so we skipped it.
Headed down a bit after noon to Bistsrot l’Aubergine for lunch. Alex and Christina greeted us warmly. He had his Burger l’Espagnol on the menu: home baked bun with tapenade of sweet peppers, burger, provolone, and chorizo. David said yea, and I went with the Osso Buco. Alex brought us two kir royales to start, and David ordered a bottle of Chateau Dalmeran rosé. everything was fabulous, as always, and we stayed until 3 pm talking with Alex. Then, we headed back to the mas to do a bit more packing.
My afternoon was filled with more calls and emails wishing me a Happy Birthday. Royston & Betty Hopkin from Grenada, Gus Cruickshank from BC, Jef Fox from the Bahamas, Andy and Robyn, and many more. Darren sent me a hilarious Happy Birthday message with a video of Michael Bolton singing Happy Birthday. I was in stitches.
Around 7:30 we headed down the road to Mas de la Rose and its wonderful restaurant, Potager du Mas. The dinning room was warm and cozy. Franck greeted us, and filled us in on the night’s specials. We started my birthday dinner with our last kir of this trip, followed by a bottle of Chateau Romanin white. Still full from lunch, I went with just the plat, their wonderful scallops. David started with their soft-boiled fresh farm egg with a minestrone of fresh vegetables, and followed with turbot, a marvelous firm, white fish.
Dinner was wonderful, and we spent a lot of time chatting with Franck about his next trip to South Florida, probably end of January, early February. We invited him to our Super Bowl Party on February 7th, if he is in the area.
With dialysis tomorrow looming, and a wonderful birthday dinner under our belts, we headed back to the mas and a warm bed.
Thanks to everyone who made my birthday so special.
